Harihareshwar Temple

Harihareshwar is famous for a temple on the seashore. It is through this temple that Harihareshwar came to be known as a tourist destination. Popularly, Harihareshwar is known as ‘Kashi’ of Southern India. The place invites religious people as well as the adventure seekers.

There are many hotels and resorts in Harihareshwar that offer comfortable stay. The place here in Harihareshwar is surrounded by four holy hills named as Harihareshwar, Harshinachal, Bramhadri and Pushpadri. The temple is situated near these hills and it consists of idols of Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Maheshwara.

It was in the 16th century that these temples were constructed. It also consists of idol of Devi Parvati. There are other temples that tourist visit along with the temple of Harihareshwar. These temples are of Shri Kalbhairav and Shri Yogeshwari.

The temple of Harihareshwar is a ten minute walk from Harihareswar beach. There some steps that one needs to climb to reach the temple. During the rainy season, these steps become moist and there are chances to slip. Hence adequate safety should be ensured while climbing these steps. The temple is extremely calm and silent and is indeed a great place for prayer and meditation and remembering the creator of the nature. People come up here and offer ‘Pradakshina’ (prayers and rituals). The beach view from the temple is breathtaking.

Harihareshwar is often referred to as Devghar or house of God because towards the north is the temple of Harihareshwar which is said to have been blessed by Lord Vishnu. Even the sacred river Savitri enters the sea from the town of Harihareshwar.

In fact the whole town of Harihareshwar is known for its tranquility, silent winds and picturesque images. Devotees from all around the country come here to experience God and offer their prayers to the almighty. When this is coupled with a beach-and-a-resort type of a holiday, it almost become like a dual holiday package for the same amount!
